2020 POPPY and REMEMBRANCE
This year marks the 100th Anniversary of Remembrance Day in Brampton and it will have a very different feel to it this year.
This year’s services will have to be scaled backed due to COVID-19 restrictions and will follow Dominion Command’s guidelines for Remembrance Day Services.
Due to these restrictions the following Remembrance events are NOT occurring;
Branch 609 Remembrance Dinner - Saturday November 7th
Branch 609 Civic Remembrance Service at Chinguacousy Park - Sunday November 8th
Candlelight Vigil in Gage Park – Sunday November 8th
Branch 15 and 609 Sunrise Service at Meadowvale Cemetery – Wednesday November 11th
Branch 609 will be conducting a short Remembrance Day Service in the Branch parking but will be following COVID-19 restrictions and Dominion Command’s guidelines.
No more than 25 participants will be allowed in the service and the six (6) foot rule will be followed, the wearing of masks is mandatory for the service.
Members of the public as per Dominion Command’s guidelines are discouraged from attending the service by being outside.
For the family members that attend the service every year, if you wish to attend, the recommendation is to drive to the Branch and park your vehicles in the parking lot around the central parking area and stay in your vehicle. Anyone that stands outside will have to be considered part of the gathering.
All of the wreaths will be preplaced and there will NOT be any wreath laying in the Service.
Anyone that wishes to place a wreath will have to do that after the service is concluded.
Unfortunately, the Branch will be closed for serving drinks and food. Those members that wish to renew their membership, you will be able to do that after the service, but the capacity is restricted to current COVID-19 restrictions inside the building.
The City of Brampton alongside Royal Canadian Legion Branches 15 and 609 has recorded a virtual Remembrance Day Service and can be found on the City's Brampton Remembers webpage.
